All the elements are structural, combining steel profiles - Light Steel Frame (LSF) with insulation boards - Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and resistent elements of cladding and bracing - Oriented Strand Board (OSB).
This combination results on an extremely high resistance capacity of the structures, providing them strength and stability. It also ensures the most appropriate structural security for each project requirements.
Building foundation is what most influences the stability and inertia of the building, according to the ground site conditions.
For this reason, Dreamdomus usually uses concrete foundations properly insulated and waterproofed, in order to prevent humidity by higroscopy.
The entire metal structure of the walls is fixed to the base with mechanical or chemical anchor. The fastening structure is applied on an asphaltic membrane, in order to seal the joints between concrete and steel.

1. How do you license a construction based on the Dreamdomus’ Construction System?
Dreamdomus’ construction requires the same licensing procedure with the respective City Hall, just like any other construction.
2. Can a Dreamdomus’ house be considered a temporary or moveable construction?
No. Dreamdomus’ houses are based on a construction like any other conventional process. It is not removable or transportable after installation. It is designed to be a house for life, with the best comfort and minimum maintenance.
3. If I need financing, what should I do?
You should contact your bank and provide a description of the house you wish to build, including information about Dreamdomus’ Construction System (to be provided by Dreamdomus) together with your personal and financial details.
4. Does Dreamdomus take care of my financing process?
No. Dreamdomus can advise a banking institution and support the process, but it does not address the financing process.
5. I already have an architecture project. Can Dreamdomus respond to other architects' projects?
Yes. Dreamdomus’ Construction System is very flexible. Dreamdomus can respond to various design types, even if they have not been developed based on the Dreamdomus’ Construction System. For the sake of optimization, there might be some adjustments needed.
6. On what kind of foundation should a Dreamdomus’ house be built?
We recommend a concrete foundation, properly executed in terms of structural safety and waterproofing.
It is also possible to install a Dreamdomus’ house, with a metal structure foundation supported by piles.
7. From which materials are Dreamdomus’ buildings made of?
Dreamdomus’ Construction System is composed by metallic profiles, Light Steel Frame (LSF), wood boards Oriented Strand Board (OSB) and thermal and acoustic insulation, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS).
The exterior cladding is made of waterproof cement panels.
The final coatings are the same as those used on a traditional construction, which means that the exterior is painted with texture paint and the interior (the plasterboard) is painted with plastic paint or aqueous acrylic enamel. All other materials, such as ceramics, bathrooms, kitchen, wardrobes, lamps are defined with the Client, project by project.
8. What type of insulation is used on Dreamdomus’ constructions?
The insulation of Dreamdomus’ Construction System is Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), for various reasons:
- It has excellent thermal characteristics;
- Allows the bonding to the OSB panels and to the metal profiles in LSF, which gives a very important structural reinforcement;
- It is permeable to steam, which allows the house to ''breathe''. This allows the elimination of steam condensation inside the house (moulds).
The exterior walls of the Dreamdomus’ Construction System are 153mm thick of EPS insulation and the interior walls are 93mm.
9. How is a Dreamdomus' house resistant to fire?
Fire resistance is similar to traditional constructions. All interior and exterior walls, as well as ceilings, are coated with non-flammable materials, such as plasterboard and cement panels. This way the structural elements are protected, allowing the maintenance of stability conditions.
10. How does a Dreamdomus’ construction behave in an earthquake situation?
Dreamdomus’ houses are designed to withstand the most adverse conditions. Due to the structure of our constructions, we can ensure that the behavior in case of earthquake is superior to the great generality of masonry constructions.
All structural steel constructions are generally more resistant to earthquakes than masonry constructions. This characteristic is related to the ductility of the materials used, their capacity to absorb the energy and to present a higher resistance to the horizontal actions.
11. A house built with Dreamdomus’ System, is more durable and sturdy than a construction built based on traditional methods?
We can say that it is equally durable, but it’s more resistant. Even though, it is built with apparently fragile materials, constructions with metallic structures respond better to situations of great demand, such as storms and earthquakes.
12. Should I already have a land, to make an appointment with Dreamdomus?
It will be better, since this way we can present an adjusted offer. If you do not have the land, you can also contact us to learn more about our technology, as well as the price for a generic project.
13. How many floors can a building based on the Dreamdomus’ Construction System have?
The Dreamdomus’ Construction System designs projects up to 2 floors.
14. What is the energy efficiency of a Dreamdomus’ house?
All our house projects are developed to achieve an energy rating A+.
Our intention is that all houses are as efficient as possible, moving towards the implementation of the Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) concept.
15. Can I build a basement with the Dreamdomus’ Construction System?
No. We recommend that the basements will be built in reinforced concrete, as well as all below-ground walls. The system was designed for the execution of superstructure construction.
16. Can I build exterior walls with the Dreamdomus’ Construction System?
We recommend that the outer walls are made of concrete, in case there is the need of soil support either in brick or blocks of concrete. The system has thermal and acoustic characteristics that are expendable in exterior walls, so in this case the economic factor makes it disadvantageous.
17. How is the insulation of a Dreamdomus’ house between floor and walls?
The insulation between floors and walls meets the required thermal and acoustic requirements. On the walls, the material used is Expanded Polystyrene (EPS). Between floors it’s used stonewool blankets hidden above the false ceiling, bands and acoustic blankets in expanded polyethylene foam. Between floors and roofing the requirements are more demanding being used plates of Extruded Polystyrene (XPS).
18. What type of windows are used?
You can use any type of windows, in wood, PVC or aluminum, with double or triple glass.
19. How do the infrastructure networks perform (electricity, telecommunications, gas and water)?
All parts of the infrastructures that circulate on the walls are installed at the factory. These sections are then interconnected at the site, being hidden above the false ceiling. This way we ensure that the infrastructure units are always installed vertically in the walls, to be easy to locate. On the other hand, the fact that the connections are done at the ceiling, it guarantees a better maintenance and the possibility of reformulating the premises. This also ensures a strict positioning of the switches, electrical outlets, points of supply and collection of water.
20. Is there a maximum size for windows?
No, but the better economic and structural outcome is with windows up to 2,4m width.
21. Do Dreamdomus’ constructions use beams, pillars and slabs as on traditional construction?
No, with Dreamdomus’ construction system the pillars are the ‘walls’. All walls are structural, meaning that the efforts are distributed along the walls and not concentrated on a singular pillar.
The steel beams are always hidden by the false ceilling, due to their regular and reduced spacing.
22. Can I have a fireplace in a Dreamdomus’ building?
Yes. It just needs to be considered on the project.
23. Does Dreamdomus also build my swimming pool?
Yes, although it’s an outsourcing service. If you prefer, you may buy this or other items that complement your home directly.
24. What type of flooring does Dreamdomus recommend to the interior of its houses?
For the interior, we recommend floating floor either laminate or vinyl flooring. The last one has the advantage of being able to be installed also in the kitchen and bathroom, avoiding the discontinuity of pavement and the existence of joints or transition profiles. For the exterior we always recommend ceramic or stone tiles.
25. Does Dreamdomus has it’s own factory?
Yes. Our factory is at Parque Industrial Baía Tejo, Barreiro, a few kilometers from Lisbon, Portugal.
26. What is done in the factory and what is done on site?
In the factory it’s the production of the parts: the inner and outer walls. Their respective installation and interconnection is done on site. The coverings are assembled on site, however its preparation is done at the factory.
27. Can I make some changes throughout the project’s development?
Yes, although it’s better to have everything defined before the work starts.
Don’t forget that one of our strengths is the rationalization of time and resources for its sustainability and competitiveness.
28. With Dreamdomus’ construction, can I fix frames or furniture on the walls?
Of course. The interior lining for walls is made of plasterboard, with the advantage that it is applied directly to the OSB wood boards. This way, when fixing an object, you are also fixing it to the OSB wood board (the fixing element should enter the wall at least 35mm).
29. As one of Dreamdomus' business areas is home automation, can I install a home automation system in a house built with Dreamdomus’ Construction System?
Of course. It is required to have it in mind so that it can be planned upon during the Planning stage , in order to have all infrastructure networks installed on time.
30. Does a Dreamdomus’ house have Solar Energy System?
It will always have a Solar Thermal Energy System and may or may not have a Photovoltaic Energy System. It only depends on Client's wishes and needs.
